What You Will Learn

Learn how to create beautiful and realistic glass leaves and incorporate them into a pâte de verre glass bowl. Taught by professional US glass artist Evelyn Gottschall Baker.

In this class you will learn how to create your own reusable casting moulds, and how to fire the glass powders to produce delicate and realistic glass leaves and incorporate them into a delicate glass bowl made with the pâte de verre method. All this, along with extra tips and techniques for glass making from a professional artist.

One of the most difficult challenges in kiln-formed glass is to create natural forms with intricate details. You will learn how to make simple, reusable open-face plaster moulds, which will be used to make glass leaves. Once the leaves have been cast, they can be incorporated as components into other work. Students will make 3-4 moulds, which can be re-used multiple times. Although this class focuses on creating realistic leaves, the mould-making process can be used for other objects, as well.

Evelyn Gottschall Baker

Evelyn has studied watercolour, oil painting, stained glass and fused glass, which allowed her to pursue a career as a glass artist, alongside her professional role as a Test Engineer, from which she has now retired to concentrate fully on her art. "Living in Colorado, I find it natural to try to capture the beauty of our local landscape into works of art using glass. I have fully embraced a realistic style, and have begun to use both traditional and non-traditional casting and mould techniques to create sculptures that depict the beauty around me. I strive to take viewers to that place where I looked down and was inspired by what I saw."
